The American Descendants of Slavery Research Institute (ADOS RI) was born from a movement dedicated to better understanding, and subsequently improving, the material condition of the American Descendants of Slavery (ADOS) and their lived experiences. Although research pertinent and applicable to Black people exists, it became abundantly clear to us that the way forward for Black people in the United States included the evaluation and application of data-driven solutions and remedies to address the persistent challenges of ADOS people. Thus, the ADOS RI was formed with the specific purpose of centering ADOS as the primary population of study.
The researchers and collaborators who contribute to the mission of the ADOS RI are committed to continued research in the current political and social climates that are increasingly hostile to academic rigor, knowledge, expertise, and justice. We are committed to collating perspectives from different disciplines in the life, behavioral, physical, and social sciences. We are committed to producing quality insights, reports, data and analyses that aid in better understanding the various impacts of life for the ADOS people group.
